Going back to college as adult students was not a random decision for us. For Dee & Dee Brown LLC, it became part of rebuilding our future the right way.
Education Changed the Way We See Business
When we first started reselling years ago, we were learning through trial and error. We understood hard work, but we did not fully understand systems, branding, operations, marketing strategy, customer behavior, or long-term business planning.
Now that we are studying Business Management and Entrepreneurship at Washtenaw Community College, we are learning how all of those pieces connect together. What makes this experience different is that we are not just memorizing information for grades. We are applying concepts directly to our real business in real time.
If we learn about:
- branding → we improve our content
- customer engagement → we apply it to reseller systems
- communication → we improve business messaging
- entrepreneurship → we refine our long-term goals
Everything connects back to real life.
Online Classes Require More Discipline Than People Think
Many people assume online classes are easier, but honestly, they require a lot of self-discipline. There are no daily classroom reminders forcing you to stay on track. You have to manage:
- assignments
- discussions
- deadlines
- business responsibilities
- personal life
- unexpected setbacks
At the same time, you still have to show up mentally focused and prepared.
One of our first assignments this semester was simply introducing ourselves and explaining why we chose online learning. It sounds simple, but it also forced us to reflect on how much growth has happened over the past few years.
We realized we are no longer just students or business owners separately. We are building both at the same time.
Building While Learning
One thing we have learned is that education and entrepreneurship work well together when you actually apply what you learn. We are not trying to build a business based only on motivation. We want systems, structure, strategy, and long-term sustainability.
As a veteran-owned business, we also understand the importance of discipline, consistency, and adaptability. Those same skills are helping us continue moving forward in school and business even during difficult seasons.
Some days are exhausting. Some assignments are frustrating. Some weeks feel overwhelming. But growth rarely happens when life is easy.
Our Goal Moving Forward
Our goal is bigger than simply passing classes. We are building:
- a stronger business foundation
- better systems
- long-term opportunities
- generational growth
- real-world knowledge we can actually use
We also hope our journey encourages other adult students, parents, veterans, and entrepreneurs who may feel like it is “too late” to start again. It is not too late. Sometimes rebuilding your future starts with logging into one online class at a time.
Returning to college while running a business has stretched us mentally, emotionally, and professionally. But it has also reminded us that learning never stops.
Every assignment, discussion post, and late-night study session is part of something larger than a grade. It is part of building the future we want for ourselves and for Dee & Dee Brown LLC.
If you are balancing school, work, entrepreneurship, or life changes right now, keep going. Progress does not always happen quickly, but consistency matters more than perfection.
Follow our journey as we continue building, learning, and growing through business, education, and real-life experience.
