It's Never Too Late to Build Something New

When I enrolled in this entrepreneurship course at Washtenaw Community College, I expected to learn how to write a business plan and understand the basics of starting a business. What I did not expect was to be actively launching Dee & Dee Brown LLC alongside my daughter while applying every lesson from the classroom to our real-life business.

Returning to college after more than forty years was intimidating. As a veteran, business owner, and nontraditional student, I often questioned whether I could balance school, family responsibilities, and entrepreneurship. Each assignment challenged me to think strategically about our business, from creating a website and financial analysis to developing marketing strategies and documenting our journey through blogging.

One of the greatest lessons I learned is that successful entrepreneurs are willing to adapt. Challenges will come, but they also create opportunities to grow, improve, and innovate. This course reinforced that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. The encouragement from my instructors, classmates, my daughter Dominique, and the Washtenaw Community College community has helped turn an idea into a business with a strong foundation.

As Dee & Dee Brown LLC continues to grow, I hope our journey inspires others to pursue their goals regardless of age or circumstance. Education and entrepreneurship work hand in hand, and I am grateful to be building both my future and my family's legacy one step at a time.

This course may be ending, but our entrepreneurial journey is only beginning.
