Some moments in life don’t give you time to prepare.
They just show up—and you have to decide if you’re going to face them.
In 2024, I went through two knee replacement surgeries.
June 28, 2024 — Right knee replacement
December 2, 2024 — Left knee replacement
Just months apart.
No long recovery window.
No time to fully reset.
Just one challenge… followed by another.
The First Surgery: Facing the Unknown
When I went in for my first knee replacement in June, I didn’t fully know what to expect.
I knew it was necessary.
I knew it would help me long-term.
But that didn’t make it easy.
There’s a different kind of weight that comes with being wheeled into surgery for the first time.
You’re trusting the process.
Trusting the outcome.
And hoping your body will respond the way it’s supposed to.
That moment—sitting there, waiting—was real.
Not polished.
Not planned.
Just real life.
The Second Surgery: Doing It All Over Again
By December, I found myself right back in that same position.
Another hospital room.
Another surgery.
Another moment of uncertainty.
But this time, it felt different.
Because now I knew.
I knew what recovery would feel like.
I knew the work it would take.
I knew the discomfort, the patience, and the discipline required.
And still… I showed up.
That’s the part people don’t always see.
It’s one thing to go through something once.
It’s another to walk back into it—knowing exactly what’s ahead.
The Moment That Matters
Right before surgery, Dominique was right there with me.
We took a photo.
We smiled.
And that moment meant everything.
Because it reminded me of something important:
Strength doesn’t always look strong.
Sometimes it looks like:
showing up when you don’t feel ready
pushing forward when it’s inconvenient
choosing to face something again—even when it’s hard
That moment wasn’t about perfection.
It was about presence.
What This Experience Taught Me
Going through two surgeries in one year taught me more than just physical recovery.
It taught me:
Resilience is built, not assumed
Consistency matters more than comfort
Support makes a difference
Showing up is a decision—not a feeling
There were days that were harder than others.
But the goal was never perfection.
The goal was progress.
Still Showing Up
This journey didn’t stop everything else in my life.
I’m still building.
Still learning.
Still working.
Still showing up.
Because that’s what this season required.
Not perfection.
Not ease.
Just consistency.
Final Thought
Two surgeries.
Same year.
Same fight.
And I’m still here.
Still moving forward.
Still building with Dominique.
Still committed to the process.
Because showing up—especially in the hard moments—matters more than anything else.
