Figure 1. The work behind the scenes—learning, applying, and building every day.
I got a 63%.
And I’m going to be honest—that number didn’t sit right with me.
Not because I’m not capable.
But because I realized something deeper:
👉 I didn’t have a system.
The Moment It Clicked
When I sat down for the exam, I recognized the material.
I had seen the terms.
I understood the basics.
But the test wasn’t asking me if I recognized the information.
It was asking:
- Can you apply it?
- Can you choose the BEST answer?
- Can you stay consistent under pressure?
That’s where things shifted for me.
What the Exam Actually Tests
The MSSC CLA exam isn’t complicated—but it is structured.
You’re expected to understand:
- Supply chain flow
- Workplace safety
- Inventory systems
- Transportation methods
- Logistics documents
Concepts like:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) setting safety standards
- National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) researching workplace safety
- The role of a Bill of Lading in tracking shipments
These aren’t just definitions.
They’re decisions.
Where I Fell Short
Looking back, I can see it clearly:
- I studied—but not consistently
- I reviewed—but didn’t test myself enough
- I understood—but didn’t practice applying
👉 That’s a system gap.
And once I saw that, everything changed.
Figure 3. A shift in approach—less guessing, more systems. Learning, applying, and building.
The System I’m Building Now
Instead of going back and just “studying harder,”
I built a simple system I can follow every day:
1. Learn (Terms & Definitions)
Not just reading—but recognizing instantly
2. Apply (Practice Questions)
Answering questions like I’m already in the exam
3. Fix (Review Mistakes)
Focusing ONLY on what I got wrong
That’s it.
No overcomplication.
Just consistency.
What This Means Beyond the Exam
This isn’t just about passing a test.
This is about how we build everything at Dee & Dee Brown LLC.
We don’t rely on motivation.
We rely on systems.
The same way we:
- Show up with content
- Prep inventory
- Learn and apply daily
👉 This exam just exposed where I needed to tighten my system.
The Comeback Plan
I’m not guessing on the next attempt.
I’m walking in with:
- Repetition
- Confidence
- A system that works
Because 63% isn’t the end.
It’s feedback.
If you’re studying for something right now—anything—
and it’s not clicking the way you expected…
Take a step back and ask:
👉 Do I have a system… or am I just hoping it sticks?
Because once you build the system,
everything else gets easier.
